Nurse Liji M Alex (31) was returning home in Kollam in Kerala after a 6-hour daily stint at a hospital in Kottayam. Midway, the bus conductor frantically began asking the passengers whether they had any water with them but none had. A passenger had fallen ill and the bus conductor assumed that sprinkling water will revive the stricken person.

As nurse Liji reached the man's seat, she found that he had collapsed and there was no pulse, which indicated a sudden cardiac arrest. Without wasting time, the victim was laid on the bus floor and Liji began CPR.
